Today in history, Nkrumah was overthrown: We need change in mindset not ‘revolution’ going forward

Issah Toha Shamsoo (Writer)

On February 24, 1966, the National Liberation Council (NLC) overthrew Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah and the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) in a military coup d’état while he was on a peace mission in Hanoi the capital of Vietnam at the invitation of the president, Ho Chi Minh to resolve the Vietnam War.

This was and still is a major blow to us as Africans. It marked our retrogression and only God can help us recover from this GREAT LOSS.

It is on this backdrop that, I condemn all the so called revolutions of this country. I personally see them as needless and time wasting. We lost so many people, resources and time to fighting what we did not even know how is was.

For instance, corruption has always been used as cover to stage these ‘needless’ coups but let’s ask ourselves are the military leaders who took up the country by force clean? Were they safe from corruption? Were they able to conquer the cancer?

Brothers and sisters, be wary and be cautious of people who may want to disrupt the peace we have enjoyed since 1992.

Ghana DO NOT need any revolution to correct our wrongs. Do not be misled by anyone for any reason.

We can only transform our beloved COUNTRY by changing our mindsets and accepting the fact that we have no where than GHANA, our homeland.

May God safeguard our democracy.

May God bless our homeland, Ghana.

May God unite mama Africa.

Thank you.
